Who is Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson is a Portland Oregon based eco-entrepreneur focusing primarily on development of new sources of clean transportation fuels in ways that lead us down a path towards sustainability while addressing the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change.
Stephen is the founder and president of American Clean Coal Fuels, which is a project development company focusing on development of large-scale synthetic fuels manufacturing facilities. Their flagship project, Illinois Clean Fuels, will produce approximately 414,000,000 gallons per year of ultra-clean synthetic transportation fuels with a reduced-to-neutral carbon footprint from a combination of biomass and coal.
His original entry into the synthetic fuels and cleantech space came while he was managing a hedge fund that he operated for a number of years called Stonebridge Asset Management. Stonebridge invested in a number of companies in the clean energy space, and yielded investors a 300% return over approximately 3.5 years. Stephen closed the hedge fund to focus exclusively on American Clean Coal Fuels, but has found time to lead the buy-side research on a major private placement into Lightfleet Corporation of Vancouver Washington. Lightfleet is an exciting high-tech company with one foot in computers, and the other in cleantech. Their technology promises to yield very large reductions in power requirements for large computer server applications, while delivering dramatic improvements in overall performance, by replacing much of the silicon-based interior architecture of high-end computer servers with optics.
Stephen is also on the board of directors of EDS Fuels, which is an up-and-coming large-scale producer of high-yielding and environmentally and food-supply-friendly Jatropha-derived bio-oil feedstocks used for biodiesel manufacture. EDS is targeting 72,000,000 gallons per year of raw bio-oil production starting in the next few years.
When he is not trying to do his part to solve the global transportation fuels crisis, he enjoys riding his motorcycle, playing in the great outdoors, and travel.
