The table in the piece linked from ASPO above (thanks for the ongoing wonderful work guys!) shows the world’s oil production broken down by country. It shows which countries are past-peak, which ones are expanding, and which ones are contracting.

This is very important data.

If you analyze it carefully, you can easily see why it is absolutely incontrovertible that we will be facing a massive liquid fuels crisis in the near future. Too many countries are past-peak, including many of the key top-10 producers. It’s like running on a treadmill that continually gets faster and faster. The more nations that slip into the post-peak column, the faster it gets. We are already at a sprint, and as the gulf has shown us, taking risks to get more that are often not fully appreciated in advance.

Development of responsible and efficient alternatives is absolutely vital to global economic security.

Always good to hear of anxious demand from our future customers.

Good to see the banking community taking notice of the peak oil issue.

This is potentially a huge help for our industry. One of the best things the government can do to help speed development of clean domestic fuel sources is to be a strong “consumer of first resort”.

The conclusion: as long as CCS is included, CTL fuels have a lower footprint than conventional fuel. And of course, if you add biomass, this process has the capability of reaching net zero emissions or better.
